The whale house was the perfect spot for our Northern California adventure -- a breathtaking drive up the twisty coast from San Fancisco and a doable day trip to Avenue of the Giants. The house was immaculately clean and had all we needed for a cozy stay -- helpful guidebooks, a good place to cook and a do-it-yourself art project for a zany personal touch. One warning if you have kids: the posted pictures don't accurately show how much stuff is in the house. We had to remove a lot of low-hanging art to keep our 1-year-old from impaling himself on a rusty tack heart (you'll see what I mean when you get there). Come with a sense of adventure and a sense of humor -- for odd and sundry anatomical folk art-- and you'll love the place. Good luck with the whale sculpture, Kyle! We can't wait for our Jack to come back and see his tile.

Just returned from an outstanding week-long stay here with my family. If you're looking for a place to stay with some character, look no further, this is the spot. It's filled (and I mean filled) with art and books, has a great ocean view and easy access to two secluded beaches. The house is clean, fully furnished and very, very fun. If you can't have a good time here, check your pulse, you might be dead.
The only thing I would tell someone not familiar with the Northern California coast is that the little town of Westport is rather remote and sleepy. We didn't see a soul the entire time we were there, but that suited us just fine. If you want shopping and restaurants go somewhere else entirely. If you want to explore the coast, go beachcombing, make art, cook meals, relax and party you could not ask for a better place.
